SaskPower has announced that Leonard (Len) Clewett has accepted the role of Executive Vice-President of Nuclear Development. This comes following an international job search and competition.

Len brings a wealth of experience from leadership roles in North America's nuclear industry. Most recently, he served as the Executive Vice-President and Chief Nuclear Officer at Bruce Power in Ontario.

Before Bruce Power, Len held other key leadership positions at XCEL Energy, EXELON, Florida Power Corporation, and United Engineers and Constructors.

“I am very excited to take on this new role. I look forward to working with SaskPower to develop its nuclear portfolio.” said the incoming Executive Vice-President, Len Clewett. "My experience in the Canadian nuclear industry gives me a keen understanding of how big an undertaking it is to start a new nuclear program. The work done to date has been excellent, and I am eager to lead this portfolio into the future."

Previously, Len has also held roles as Chair of the World Association of Nuclear Operators International Participants Forum, Co-Chair of the Canadian Regulator/Canadian Nuclear Operators Working Group, Chair of the Canadian Chief Nuclear Officer Forum, and as a member of the Executive Advisory Committee for the North American Young Generation Nuclear.

Len holds has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and a Master of Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University. He also has held a Senior Reactor Operator License from the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission and a New Hampshire Professional Engineer License.

In November 2023, SaskPower created a dedicated nuclear development division, tasked with small modular reactor development, and evaluating the potential role nuclear power could play in Saskatchewan's power future.
